Toorn van Meerstad
In 2004 the artist Harm Naaijer (illegaly) built together with people a tower of demolition/recycled wood in the center of the future Meerstad; the latest expansion plan by the province Groningen, near the town Harkstede. Current residents of this area need(ed) to move house involuntary. For this project one person made a piece of land of 50 by 100 meters available where the tower would arise.
In this tower discussions concerning cultivated surroundings were to be organised. One of the main points of discussion is the freedom which us citizens is taken away if it concerns building and rebuilding.
Unfortunately, the council declared that the tower had to be taken down, so discussion couldn't take place in this tower.
